How to be a Strength-based Parent

Think about the connections that we’re making with our children. What do we want them to take away from our interactions with them? This article offers a way to highlight our child’s talents and character while supporting their growth points.

C.A.R.E.

As parents we want the best for our children; we work hard to provide for them and protect them. At school, we have developed an acronym to help students remember the expectations for behavior, and we ask you to consider incorporating them with your child at home and wherever you travel as a family.

Courtesy – the manner in which we treat each other, our belongings, our home, learning and play environments, and public spaces.

Awareness – our careful attention to our surroundings and our place within it.

Responsibility – being accountable for our actions, our belongings, our learning and play environments.

Enthusiasm – the vigor we give to everything we do.

All parents need to remember that true happiness comes through having character and discipline, and living a life of meaningful contribution — not by having and doing whatever you wish.”
