April Meeting of the Charter Board

Our Charter Board will hold its monthly meeting @ 4:00 tomorrow, in the Blue Tang Classroom (large room). Meetings of the Charter Board are open to the public and are posted to our school’s website.

Parent Interest Meeting

I will host a Parent Interest meeting on Thursday in the Art Room, from 5:30-6:30.  During this hour-long meeting I will share our school’s programs and practices.  Parents interested in enrolling their child at our school will gain an understanding of the partnership that is a vitally important component of our charter school programs.  This is also a good meeting for families of currently enrolled students who need a review of the School Family Commitment.

Important Information for Current 6th Year Families

The Roosevelt Sands Clinic (1100 Simonton St, Key West) is extending their hours each Wednesday until 6:20 to get all of our 6th grade students ready for their 7th grade shot requirements. Additionally, the clinic will be open on Saturday, May 6th from 9:00-4:00  for 6th grade students to get their Tdap, which is required for entry into 7th grade.  There is never an out of pocket expense, even if you have insurance.  Call the clinic to make your appointment: (305) 293-7500 Families may call Mrs. Renee (293.1400, ext. 53428) with any questions.

Papio’s Kinetic Parade

Our school will have an entry in the parade, which takes place Saturday, May 6th @ noon.  The parade begins @ the Custom House and will travel all the way down Duval Street to the Southernmost Beach, where everyone will gather for the after party.  Our theme design will be an octopus, and we are fortunate to have the support of local artist Steve Linden in getting the structure built, too! We will need student/family participation in the parade, so please start thinking of how you can join our float as we roll down Duval in the Kinetic parade!

Kinetic Kids Event

Our school has been invited to benefit from the family fun Kinetic Kids event that will take place from 11-3 on Sunday, May 7th at the Fort East Martello. While admission to the fort is free on that day, there will be kinetic games and activities, a bake sale and lemonade stand, and all the proceeds from the event will benefit May Sands Montessori School!  We will need the support of families, especially those who still have outstanding service hours, to help make this event a success, whether in preparing the special items or working the event.  These are the positions needed – please contact me for details:

  • Construction of a catapult (we have the design) – for a life-size Angry Birds game
  • Painting playground balls & boxes
  • Construction of a ‘super soaker’ (we have the design) – for an alternative to a dunk tank
  • baking sweet & savory treats
  • Set up – three positions (beginning @ 10:00)
  • Participating @ the event (11-3)
    • Kinetic Activity Attendants (two or three positions)
    • Bake Sale Attendants (two or three positions)
    • Craft Table Supervisor (two positions)
  • Clean-up (two or three positions)

May All-School Meeting

Our last meeting of the school year will take place Wednesday, May 10 @ 6:00 in the Blue Tang Classroom.  Child care will not be provided, though I will keep the meeting to one hour, as usual.  Families who need to bring their children should plan to have them working on a quiet activity. As a reminder, families are required to attend at least two of our three all-school meetings; if you missed either the August or January meeting, your attendance is required at this last one of the school year!

Lottery for SY2018

Our lottery to determine enrollment for SY2018 will take place Friday, May 12 @ 4:15 in the Art Room.  As a reminder, students whose families have not completed their annual Contract of Commitment will be entered into the lottery.

We have a lot of activities in these last weeks of school – be sure you stay up to date on all that is happening! Our calendar of events is updated regularly and can be downloaded to your smartphone – check it out: http://maysandsmontessori.com/events/.
