Spell-a-Thon
Beginning this Friday, our school will kick off the sixth annual Spell-a-Thon! Each student will receive a list of spelling words selected by their Classroom Guide, according to their developmental level. Attached to their list will be a sponsorship sheet to collect pledges of support from friends, neighbors and relatives (nearby and out of town). Pledges can be based on how many words spelled correctly, or a flat amount for the whole test. Students will have two weeks to study their words and get pledges before Spell-A-Thon Test Day. After students’ tests are scored, it’s time to collect pledge money! Prizes will be awarded to the top earner in each class, and for scoring 100% on the test. The class with 100% participation will earn a popcorn party!
We have a very helpful way to encourage online pledges of support for the Spell-a-thon that will also help facilitate collection of pledges! Through our membership with Flipcause, students are able to create their personal donation page that can be shared with family and friends. Our Upper Elementary and Early Secondary students will receive an electronic invitation to create their personal page within our Spell-a-Thon fundraising event, and I will share development tips with students this Friday at our weekly Flag Raising. Our Fundraising Committee is pleased to be able to offer the Flipcause resource to facilitate our successful fundraisers while helping boost our network of donors!
Co-Chair for Event Needed
Our Fundraising Committee meets each Monday morning, and it was noted during this week’s meeting that we are in need of a co-chairperson to support our annual Holiday Bazaar, which will take place on 26 November from 9-2 at our school campus. Interested parents should contact Chairperson Layla Barr directly: [email protected]
International Day of Peace
Our school is committed to peace education, and each year we celebrate the International Day of Peace with a school-wide march in our community. This year we are joining with our friends at the Montessori Children’s School of Key West at Bayview Park for our annual celebration. We will have a moment of silence to honor private intentions for peace, and then participants will be invited to share their thoughts on peace. We invite everyone from our community to join us as we celebrate peace; meet at the courtyard of school by 8:55 a.m. and we will begin our march to Bayview Park promptly at 9:00. Everyone is encouraged to wear white.
Campus Tidy-Up
Our House & Grounds Chairperson Craig Reynolds will host our next Campus Tidy-up from 9-12 on Saturday, September 24th. This is a terrific way for families to complete service hours while helping beautify and care for our school campus. Families can select a project from the list found on our KWMCS Families page: http://maysandsmontessori.com/resources/kwmcs-families-portal/
Box Tops for Education
Did you know that our school earned $331.20 last year through our submission of Box Tops? You can help earn funds for our school by clipping and sending your family’s collection in to school. In the past we were focused on promoting Box Tops near the collection dates, but we are able to submit them at any time. In our home, a snack-sized baggie clipped to the refrigerator holds our collection, and everyone at home keeps an eye out for the Box Tops label on the products we purchase. When the baggie is filled, my daughters split the collection in two equal parts and turn them in to their Lead Guide. I encourage everyone to begin collecting Box Tops – check out our handy list of products containing the labels on our KWMCS Families page: http://maysandsmontessori.com/resources/kwmcs-families-portal/
