Thanks so much to our volunteers, who helped at our various fundraising events last weekend, and who will help again this weekend! I know how precious our weekends are, and I am thankful for your support!

The Amazing Brain

Our first lessons with the MindUP curriculum center on teaching students about three key players in the brain: the amygdala (regulates our emotional state), the prefrontal cortex (responsible for learning, reasoning, and thinking), and the hippocampus (manages our response to threats, responsible for memory and learning).  While each of us is responsible for taking care of our brain, parents and adults at school can help by reminding students to get plenty of rest, drink water throughout the day, eat healthily and include a good source of protein, and wear a helmet when riding on wheels.

TriKW Volunteers Needed

We still have three volunteer positions open for the middle and late shifts, for tomorrow’s TriKW – double service hours apply!  Our school receives a financial benefit from having volunteers help at this event, so families can fulfill their fundraising hours by participating in this event!

Middle Shift: 7:00-11:00 – https://www.flipcause.com/secure/volunteer_step2/MjYzODk=/13747

Late Shift: 11:00-3:00 – https://www.flipcause.com/secure/volunteer_step2/MjYzODk=/13748

Peace Begins with Me

All families & members of staff are invited to purchase Peace Shirts/Tanks by  4:00 Monday, December 11th to ensure delivery before the holiday break.  The cost is $12/student (T-shirts, only), and $15/adult (tank or T).  A copy of the sizing chart is available on our website:  http://maysandsmontessori.com/fundraising/information/  Please make checks payable to May Sands Montessori School.

FKOC Families

Our school has a tradition of adopting families identified by the Florida Keys Outreach Coalition for the holidays.  Our staff is also collecting gifts for the nine single ladies that are on the FKOC list.  Any family or individual on the FKOC list is not permitted to be on any other holiday gift list; they will only receive gifts through FKOC, so it’s important that we confirm our participation. This is a great community service opportunity that our students can participate in with you!
